Spa-Francorchamps: father and daughter Ickx, a "uniquely phenomenal" Belgian duo!

Jacky Ickx is probably the greatest Belgian racing driver of all time, well known throughout the world for his performances in all the most important competitions. Today is the day of return to the mythical Spa-Francorchamps circuit. To pay tribute to Ickx, and as part of the campaign « Belgium, uniquely phenomenal », his daughter, Vanina Ickx, interviewed her father in the world’s fastest interview, which can be found here.

Jacky Ickx is the ultimate icon of Belgian motor racing. Twice World Vice-Champion of Formula 1 and two-time World Endurance Champion, his records include 8 Formula One Grand Prix victories, 13 pole positions, 6 Le Mans titles, and a Paris-Dakar victory. To this day, his records are still unrivalled in Belgium. Vanina Ickx followed in her father’s footsteps, also collecting multiple victories along the way, before drawing a line under her career as a driver in 2011 to take on the rewarding role of being a mother. However, she occasionally gets back behind the wheel for certain races much to the delight of her fans.

They are both ambassadors for the campaign « Belgium, uniquely phenomenal », which wants to shine a light on a country that has more to offer than one might think. They were therefore keen to participate in a 100% Belgian and sporty interview, in which Jacky opens up to his daughter about his feelings towards his career, the legendary circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, and Belgium. Since 2017, the campaign of the federal authorities "Belgium, uniquely phenomenal" supports the positive image of the country through offering 99 good reasons to visit and invest in Belgium, using the Belgian’s proud sense of humour and self-mockery. Why 99? Because 100 would be slightly exaggerated. It’s therefore natural that this campaign also highlights the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, a Belgian gem with a worldwide reputation, which attracts tens of thousands of enthusiasts every year. It’s definitely one of the international pilots’ favourites: its varied route across the rolling landscape of the Belgian Ardennes offers them all the challenges they could possibly dream of encountering.
