‘Girls in Hawaii’ make Brussels Central Station ‘uniquely musical’
The campaign ‘Belgium. Uniquely Phenomenal’ is putting Belgian musical talent and cultural heritage in the spotlight. In collaboration with ‘Bruxelles Ma Belle’, Indie pop band ‘Girls in Hawaii’ transformed the Central Station in Brussels into a real film set for the recording of a new video clip. This initiative brings together two iconic phenomena that Belgium is very proud of: phenomenal, passionate artists and a special architectural attraction of invaluable historical importance.
‘Belgium. Uniquely Phenomenal’ is a federal government campaign that promotes a positive image of Belgium. Posters and pop-up events in and outside Belgium have highlighted no less than 99 good reasons to visit and invest in Belgium. Two of those reasons are of course the beautiful cultural heritage and the high-quality musical talent, which receive extra attention with this project.
The video clip was made in collaboration with ‘Bruxelles Ma Belle’. This is an initiative that tries to highlight Brussels heritage in an original way, such as with music. Artists are thus given the opportunity to perform live at the most beautiful places in Brussels. Since its creation in 2010, this non-profit organization has filmed more than 150 international musicians at more than 100 Brussels locations. This covers both tourist attractions such as the Grand Place and the Atomium, and some hidden gems. The Central Station cannot be omitted from this list. This architectural phenomenon was partly designed before the First World War by the renowned architect Victor Horta. With almost 53,000 visitors a day, it is also one of the three busiest stations in the country.
The band that will put Brussels Central Station in the spotlight is called ‘Girls in Hawaii’. This is a Belgian Indie pop band consisting of Antoine Wielemans, François Gustin, Daniel Offerman, Brice Vancauwenberghe, Lionel Vancauwenberghe and Boris Gronemberger. Their first album, ‘From Here To There’, was released in 2003 and was immediately a great success, not only in Belgium, but also in the rest of Europe. Since then three albums have been released, including the catchy ‘Nocturne’ last autumn. Shortly after, the band also participated in the RTBF program ‘D6bels On Stage’.
Girls in Hawaii is not the only band that dares make uniquely phenomenal video clips. Other clips will appear in the course of the year, with Flemish and Walloon artists taking the lead.
The end result of the video clip, which has been viewed no less than 266.000 times since yesterday, can be seen here: https://www.facebook.com/BelPhenomenal/videos/1112513288890546/
